Project Genesis

The carpooling application project was born from a very concrete need at IMT Mines Alès, a campus of around 1,000 students: the majority of students are housed at the Maison des Élèves, and organizing shared trips between the school, the city, or other destinations is often complicated. There was no centralized tool to propose a trip, find a driver, or organize quickly between students.

It was to answer this problem that Mathias Jamin proposed to me to develop a carpooling application within the framework of our "Algorithms and Object Programming" course. The idea was to design a simple, practical solution thought for daily usage, while applying the object-oriented concepts learned in class.

Subsequently, I decided to take over the project in a more advanced course, "Design and Development of a Computer Product", to go further in the process. I was the team’s technical referent there: architecture decisions, backlog management and technical support for the six other members. With my team, we reworked the architecture, added real data management, integrated robust authentication, and consolidated the whole to obtain a functional, clean, and maintainable version. The project thus evolved from an academic prototype to a more accomplished application, designed as a real product meeting student needs.
